Google I/O 2018
Google I/O 2k18! What Just Happened there?
Well, like always Google I/O for 2018 was stunning and they unleashed a lot of interesting stuff this year. All the exciting news advancements that were revealed on that day are summarized below, go thorough it and find out how exciting the day actually was.
Of course without any hesitation, the key google highlight was Android P update. Now the opportunity to download Android P beta is open. And what even more interesting is that, it is supported in pixel phones, nokia 7 plus and even in the upcomming OnePlus 6. The day didn't just end with that note, it had a lot to reveal more and surprise us on google assistant, google maps and gmail.
A recording was shown by the company to demonstrate about their new release of a kind of an assistant to handle their calls, which made the crowd gasp. And that gasp was partly of amusement and partly of creepiness. Because this assistant which is named "Google Duplex" , a very smarter version can make phone calls and reservations by itself for you. Not just making the reservation, it is intelligent enough to answer back to the human questions and even generate it's own questions to clarify further. The demonstration contained two recordings and the audience were unable to recognize the human voice in both recordings. One was to book an appointment for hair cut, in which the assistant replies aptly for all the questions like the date, time and type of hair cut. What is even more creepy is that the assistant even manages to utter "hmm" and "huh" in between the conversation. Actually the human voice seems to mess things up while the assistant voice is too natural and perfect. In the second recording, it was about booking a dinner reservation and the receptionist seems to have a thick accent but the duplex did not budge, it just continues to amuse us with it's perfectly human voice. And as a final bit this assistant is now available in six different voices.
While we are still appreciating google maps and thinking how wonderful it is, it just got better that night. Yup, we travel across the globe trusting the google map we have in our pockets but you've probably been bothered by not knowing where this blue dots lead to and the compass is always off a bit. But not anymore, all you have to do is point your phone to the street and a street view AR would show up, pointing you to the right direction while also keeping google maps below.
The other key note that surprised us all is the Waymo self-driving jaruar i-pace car. It's just not like the other autonomous cars, these cars are the types the mass market would love to buy. It was stunning and one of the top most of the highlights of Google I/O.
One more thing was that Gmail is getting better too. Gmail's smart compose is going to help us a lot regardless of it being an friendly or an official mail. Not just with words but with chunks of suggestive sentences. Because of Google's resource of our large data, it will analyze and compose the mail according to the derived information. Even Gmail is lot smarter now.
And there is even more to go with Android P's smart intelligent features. Adaptive Battery, The operating system will predict the apps you won't be using on that day and will help to reduce 30% reduction in the CPU wake ups for apps. And we all know the struggle we undergo while trying to reduce the brightness while in darkness and increase it while we are under broad light. And the solution is Adaptive brightness, no more manual adjusting. App actions are just going to get smarter with predictions, searching for the latest movie might suggest with you tickets for that particular move.
And there were even lots and lots of new inventions integrated into Android P. Like fixed volume slider, screen rotation and what's more even a data display about how much you are using something in your phone so that you can reduce the time you spend with your phone.
That night people watched and listened with awe while the world got more creepier and more aligned towards technology.
